The swede that keeps on trying! In earlier years, Johannes had qualified for World’s Strongest Man five times, but had only managed to make the final in 2012. Plagued with injuries, Johannes had shown much promise only to fall at the last hurdle several times.
However, Arsjo has proven that persistence is power! To this day, although he has not yet managed to win World’s Strongest Man, he has won the titles of Scandinavia’s Strongest Man 2012-13 and Sweden’s Strongest Man 2009 right through to 2017. That’s nine straight victories in row!
With nine victories in a row, you would have thought that Arsjo would have been popping up within the international strongman competitions within the top ranks. Although within the Strongman Champions league, Arsjo kept coming up in second place, this happened four times between 2010 and 2012. In the Europe’s Strongest Man Contests in 2014, Arsjo came in 2nd place and in 2016, he came in 3rd place, which is still pretty impressive.
Although Arsjo ranks high within these smaller competitions, in The World’s Strongest Man competitions in 2012 and 2013, he placed in 8th and 9th place. As you can see this guy is no joke, but he cannot seem to make his way up on the leader board internationally. In 2016 he qualified, but didn’t come up in the rankings. Hopefully he will take a well-deserved rest and come back with vengeance to once again try and battle his way through the international competitions and get a high ranking place alongside some of the great professional strongmen that we see today!
Most recent achievement: Johannes Arsjo’s most recent achievement is winning Sweden’s Strongest Man in 2017.
Although you can find a video of Arsjo winning the 2017 Sweden’s Strongest Man, it is hard to find one with English audio. Here we have some footage of Arsjo in The World Deadlift Championships in 2014 lifting 420Kg. In this clip you can see Arsjo struggle as he tried to get the full lockout with the deadlift. Even though this was in 2014, this shows the determination of this great strongman as he powers through. I think this would have been the same determination that he used to be able to achieve 9 victories in a row:
