Derek Poundstone was often called “The Incredible Hulk Poundstone” for his sheer size and power. It is an odd state of affairs when you’re considered “the short one” at over 6 feet tall. Derek began his strongman career in 2003 after a transition from powerlifting. Since 2008 Poundstone has put in some impressive World’s Strongest Man performances, consistently reaching the final.

Although the WSM title has eluded him, Derek has twice won the Arnold Strongman Classic in 2009 and 2010. Derek Also won America’s Strongest Man competition in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He also came to impress when he won at The Giants Live competitions in 2009, 2010 and 2013! Even though Derek has not gone on to win any of the WSM competitions, he has impressed by setting the bar higher with new world records over the years. Here are some of his world records;

  • Log press; 130Kg 13reps in 75 seconds
  • Overhead block lift; 150Kg
  • Circus dumbbell; 103kg 11reps in 90 seconds

Although many of the great strongmen are now professional athletes, with no other job outside of their chosen sport, Derek has maintained his role as a police officer, we certainly wouldn’t want to be on the wrong end of this man’s truncheon!
